Stilon
S.A. is the largest producer of textile and technical polyamide
fibres, as well as engineering plastics, in Poland. Its products
are used by the automotive industry and the electrotechnical industry,
to name but a few. During the transitional period of Poland's economy,
the Company, first established in 1951, went through a long sequence
of restructuring changes- from its early status of a government-owned
company, through the status of a company owned exclusively by the
State Treasury (1992), its participation in the Mass Privatisation
Programme (1995, the Second National Investment Fund), to its present
form of a joint stock company, with the controlling interest owned
by Rhodia Group, based on French
and Italian capital, with the Head Office located in Paris. As early
as the beginning of the 1990s, a consistent restructuring programme
was initiated at Stilon. Several major changes of proprietary, organisational
and financial character were introduced. As a result, the company
is now able to provide work for about 1500 employees, with 400 people
employed in its dependant companies. In addition to that, over 4000
people, employed in over 60 companies, work in a separate industrial
zone, created around Stilon. With Stilon's entering Rhodia's international
structures, the strategic position of the company has been reinforced.
Stilon is gradually becoming a leading producer in all four scopes
of its activity:
- Textile yarns (based on the production and marketing
programme led by Nylstar,
located in Milan, Italy)
- Technical yarns (based on the production and marketing
programme led by Rhodia
Industrial Yarns, located in Emmenbrucke, Switzerland)
- Engineering plastics (based on the production and marketing
programme led by Rhodia Engineering
Plastics, located in Lyons, France)

Our
sales value for 2002 amounted to 478,4 million PLN, with 80% accounting
for export sales. Within Rhodia's sales and marketing system, Stilon
is directly responsible for the Polish market, as well as the Baltic
countries and the eastern market. The company remains the key buyer
of caprolactam from Polish chemical factories in Tarnów and Puławy.
The purchases supplied by the two account for 95% of the total purchase
of caprolactam, and the raw material is earmarked for Stilon's purposes
an for distribution to other factories in the Group. Stilon's strategic
success, enabling its existence in Poland's new economic reality,
would not be possible without the Company's staff. "The new Stilon"
remains a second home for its employees, offering a rich welfare
programme. The Company continues to occupy a central position in
the local community, through a wide external welfare programme,
financing of amateur and professional sport and consistent promotion
of Polish culture.
New
challenges have forced Stilon to look for a new generation of experts.
That is why Stilon intends to introduce an educational programme,
beginning from 2000 and in close co-operation with Poland's leading
universities traditionally supporting Stilon with well-educated
staff. This will enable the company to hire best graduates, provide
them with additional education in Poland and abroad, and offer many
promotion opportunities to the most competent and consistent ones.
